Lunar New Year 2019 (Sat, Feb 7, 2019: 5:00-8:00pm)

Korean Cultural Connection of Iowa (KCC) and Korean American Society of Iowa (KASI) are combining our efforts to host a Lunar New Year Celebration! Join us to say goodbye to the year of the dog and usher in the year of the pig! Enjoy some Korean food and a game of Yut Nori!

The pig is the final sign in the zodiac. The theme for 2019 is the future of the Korean American community in Iowa. How can we continue to grow and thrive? Help KCC and KASI by attending the event and taking part in the future of the Korean American community in Iowa!

Korean food and water will be provided.

  • $20.00 for adults

  • $10.00 for children older than 5

  • FREE for children 5 and under

All proceeds will go to KCC and KASI. Both are non-profit organizations and donations are tax deductible.

  • 7:00 PM: Games, Yut Nori

Programming this year will not include Tae Kwon-Do demonstrations or children's crafts.

5th Annual Fall Potluck (October 7, 2018)

The Korean Cultural Connection (KCC) invites you to join us for our 5th annual Fall Potluck on Sunday, October 7, 2018. This event will be held from 12:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. at Campbell Park in Clive, IA. (12385 Woodlands Parkway) The event will be set up at the open-air shelter and free parking is available.

  • Eat/Drink: Bulgogi, kimchi, rice, and bottled water will be provided by the KCC. Bring a dish to share and anything else you’d like to eat/drink. (Non-alcoholic beverages only, please! Alcohol is not permitted.)

  • Play: Campbell Park has a playground, plenty of green space, and is located near the trail system. Yard games are welcome!

  • Relax: We’ll be playing k-pop, so come hang out and enjoy the music!

CelebrAsian 2018: Korean Village Volunteer Sign Up

Join the Korean Cultural Connection (KCC) at this year's Asian Heritage Festival, CelebrAsian. This two day event will be held May 25-26 at the Western Gateway Park in downtown Des Moines.

The Korean Village will feature three tents:

  • Food: We'll be serving bulgogi (chicken or beef), spicy pork, vegan bibimbap, rice, and kimchi--YUM!
  • Gifts: Cookbooks, traditional drinks and snacks, tea sets & more
  • Culture: Snap a photo at our photobooth, enjoy informational and cultural displays & more!

KCC needs your help! With your support, we can ensure the Korean community will be well-represented at CelebrAsian, so please sign up for a volunteer shift here!

Join us for our 2018 Lunar New Year celebration! (February 17)

Join the Korean Cultural Connection (KCC) at its annual Lunar New Year celebration on Saturday, February 17, 2018.

  • Location: NOAH’S Event Venue (1805 90th Street West Des Moines, IA)
  • Time: 11:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Traditional Korean food (bulgogi, japchae, kimchi, and rice), games, crafts, cultural information, calligraphy, and tae kwon do demonstrations will be offered throughout the afternoon. In addition, the Winter Olympics will be aired in honor of the games being hosted in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

This celebration is free and open to the public. Free will donations will be accepted. Guests are encouraged to wear their hanboks.

The Korean Cultural Connection (KCC) invites you to join us for our 4th annual Fall Potluck on Sunday, October 8, 2017. This event will be held from 12:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. at the Colby Park Shelter in Windsor Heights, IA. (6900 School Street.) Free parking is available.

  • Play: Colby Park has a playground, plenty of green space, and is located near the trail system. Yard games are welcome!
  • Learn: KCC's Board President, Ben Jung, will share a few remarks at 12:45 p.m.
